TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS, organized on Tuesday, 10th of October 2018, at the Electra Metropolis Hotel, an event for certified sustainability assurance schemes. In this context, the company presented, first in Greece, internationally recognized sustainability standards and schemes, such as OK Compostand OK Biobased for the certification of biodegradability of plastic products and the FSC® Chain of Custody Certification standard for the certification of forest products.
At this event the environmental product verification marks OK Compostand OK Biobasedwere presented, which are the only ones that offer a customized certification mark for each biodegradation environment. Furthermore, the FSC® Chain of Custody standard was analyzed, which defines the management and production requirements for the effective monitoring of certified FSC® materials within the forestry supply chain.
At the start of the event, Mr. Ioannis Kallias, C.E.O. of TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS, welcomed the attendees and mentioned among others the value of environmental and sustainability certification schemes, as we live in a time of significant environmental change. Following, a speech by Mr. Werner Bosmans, who represented the European Commission in Brussels, analyzed the European Union's overall strategy on the use of plastics. Presentations were made by the General Manager of Hellenic Association of Chemical Industries, Mr. P. Skarlatos and the President of the Association of the Greek manufacturers of Packaging materials (AGMPM) Mr. D. Mantis, by the Assistant Professors Dr. Eleni Herakleous & M. Triga, Managing Director of the Global Sustain Group, Mr. M. Spanos, from the executives of TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS & BELGIUM, as well as professionals in the plastics, paper and wood industry, who gave the opportunity to the participants to be informed about their new international standards, their application, their benefits and their importance.
The chairman of AGMPM presented the European circular economy model mentioning that the new Green Age of packaging has come. European regulations, market trends, as well as the latest public consultation for the detoxification of recycled packaging materials were the key points of this presentation.
