On 23-26 October 2023 the annual Conference of GS1 in Europe took place in Athens. More than 700 executives from GS1's 49 member organizations attended the conference, which focused on the new business challenges of companies that manufacture and move goods in the supply chain. Best practices were also presented, and new standards developed for the harmonization of companies in European legislation such as digital labels, e-commerce, traceability, alcoholic beverage labels, etc. were discussed.
AGMPM accepted the invitation of GS1 Association-Greece and participated in the "Wrap up the package" workshop regarding waste management, the environmental footprint and the circular economy in general. The meeting analyzed critical articles of the new European PPWR regulation and the need to standardize and use new tools, such as the digital passport of packaging.
Prototype case studies were also developed for the application of digital technologies in bottle guarantee systems as well as RFID tags in reusable packaging for the Ho.Re.Ca sector. Finally, in the same session, tools were presented for the successful marking of refillable packages in private label products (food and detergents) of European retailers.
Presentations of the workshop as well as literature on the digital passport of packaging are available to AGMPM members and partners.
