On October 13, 2018 the Greek Packaging Association (AGMPM) along with the Hellenic Association of Food Technologists (HEL.A.F.T) and with the support of the Greek Food and Drink Industry association (SEVT) organized the first workshop in our country on the scientific field of 'food waste' emphasizing the critical role of packaging to minimize waste in the logistic chain of food.
The advanced presentations of Mr. Mourtziopoulos (R&D manager of Barba Stathis SA), Mr. Paraskevopolos (R&D manager of Hatzopoulos SA) and Mrs. A. Antoniadou (food scientist) outlined the technical frame of this event.
With the contribution of the academic research experts (the team of Dr. Taoukis NTUA School of Chemical Engineering: Dr. T. Tsironi and Dr. H Gogou, Dr. S. Papadakis University of West Attica, Dr. A. Kanavouras Agricultural University of Athens) the news technologies to minimize food waste, which have been developed in the lab, were presented to the attendants.
Finally, we must point out the presentations of Mr. N. Farantouris (Sustainability Manager GR & CY, COCA COLA 3E Greece) and Mr. P. Kastanas (Region Manufacturing Services & Packaging Nestle Hellas SA), which underline how the strategic vision of their companies for zero waste can be implemented to industrial practice using advanced tools and techniques.
The significant number of attendees and the high technical level of the presentations have set new standards for the forthcoming workshop and seminars. The initiative for minimizing food waste cannot be limited in one event. AGMPM as the only Hellenic participant in the Save food initiative will continue focusing on this scientific field.
