Recognizing that plastic materials have found themselves in the communicative “line of fire”, as being culpable for environmental disasters,Plant of Boussias Communications organized the 1st Plastics Conference, where best practices of production and management of plastics presented, as well as improved ways for their retrieval and recycling. The event was supported by A.G.M.P.M. ( Association of Greek Manufacturers of Packaging & Materials), the Federation of Hellenic Food Industries and the Hellenic Recycling Agency.

The target of the Plastics Conference 2020 was to form a Pan-European meeting spot for the most important industries of this field, as well as all the companies and the carriers of recycling and waste management. The new Community Directives have changed everything in the plastics industry, which is, however, already starting to transform, ensuring its development.

International speakers, experts and executives of the Plastic industry as well as representatives of the Greek authorities presented case studies focusing on the following topics:

• The initiative and goals of the European Commission, which is set to create a new coalition between European plastics industries.

• Presentation on the Greek plastics industry. Businesses, economic data, exports, working positions, diachronic development.

• The Institutional Framework. The changes that have been brought on by the new community directives regarding plastics.

• The “plastic investment” of the food and drink industry. The innovations in plastics packaging.

• Recycling (i). Solutions for the supplying of “clean” recyclable materials directly to the industries.

• Recycling (ii). The infrastructure demanded in order for plastics factories to gain their own recycling units. Products that are produced from recycling, the eco-nomic plan and the benefits.

• Bioplastics. The new-generation’s plastics.

• Industrial evolution. The infrastructure demanded in order for a small craft industry producing plastic bags to evolve and adapt to these new issues.

• Examples of better practices from factories in Europe and Greece.

Participants were informed on the new technological methods of production, waste management, retrieval and recycling and met the visionaries and the innovators of the European plastics industry.
